Scott, what about the use of ellipsis when writing sound descriptions? BJ uses them at the start of Moonlight when describing the sound of the ocean. Are they required though, say if you were describing the sound of a heart rate monitor? “beep… beep… beep…”

I like to use double dashes in my dialogue as means of signalling a rhythmic shift, or to emphasise the end of a sentence. Example: “Fine. Off you go. But I won’t be here when your return — on account of being dead”.

I’ve read scripts where a ; is used instead.
